Well THAT was unexpected, friend…
^^a theme of my life currently…
I think as we pull up to this coffee shop (if you can even call it that).
To be fair, my husband didn't say let's go to a coffee shop.
He said, “Let's grab some coffee” on our way home from out date last Saturday.
So imagine my surprise when we pull up to none other than …
QUIKTRIP.
a gas station…
And this is where our story began.
Actual footage of me saying, “You have got to be kidding me.”
We walk in amidst my own disbelief and my husband's reassurances, “Yes, Courtney, you're going to like it. It really IS good.”
I think he could smell the confidence I had in the QT coffee. I think the guy behind the REGISTER could smell my confidence in the QT coffee from ACROSS THE GAS STATION.
For anyone who doesn't know, or is unfamiliar, Quiktrip is basically a staple for southerners. Tulsans in particular. I found this out YEARS AGO when I remember getting a milkshake there in high school…
MIND YOU – I didn't live in Tulsa, so while visiting my twin sister and I were taken to QT for a milkshake. Why? Because you could grab the cup and you got to put it in a special machine where it made the milkshake for you!…
…and it was meh, but everyone else was obsessed so who was I to judge?
QT is wonderful, 10/10 in terms of gas stations.
But as a coffee shop?
“Now, do you want hot or cold?”
Chase pulled me out of my stupor that yes, we were in fact getting our date night coffee at QT.
I'm sorry, that wouLd be a definite no on cold coffee from the gas station, thank you very much.
Tentatively I grab my cup and hold it under the Vanilla Latte (which looks eerily like the on tap section behind a bar, but it says vanilla latte nitro brew so here we go.
Latte starts flowing into my cup, normal smells emanating from it so that's a good sign.
My cup is now full and there's nothing else to do but take a sip.
And holy guacamole — it hit me like a ton of bricks.
This coffee is heaven. Heaven in a cup.
From a gas station.
Let me be very clear that this is NOT the burned coffee that sits on the pot for hours and hours of ages past. (Or what you might picture sitting in Waffle House or gas stations like that…)
I know what you're thinking…
What is this world!?
This chick has lost her marbles.
Gas station coffee is the WORST.
And I would agree with you —
Except (and I don't know how they manage it) it doesn't taste like gas station coffee.
I've actually been craving it every morning because it's WAY better than Starbucks.
I SAID WHAT I SAID.
BUT it got me thinking about VALUE, and how on a typical day (or really ever) you could NEVER catch me grabbing coffee at the gas station unless I REALLY NEEDED IT.
Like, we're talking pulling an all nighter in college to study for that HUGE EXAM and needing caffeine more than anything else in the world…
Or on a road trip leaving at 4 AM and DESPERATE for something to help me stay awake while we're driving…
And let me tell you, those late night or early morning coffees from the gas station have NOTHING on this specialty brew from QT.
Though ironically, it's priced about the same as Starbucks so they clearly know this stuff is good.
That's truly the only time I'd stop for gas station coffee.
But this treat? Was so unexpectedly wonderful.
Truth be told, I do NOT gravitate towards red.
In any form.
When I told my florist I wanted pink flowers, and he told me he would include red peonies with the pink ones, I thought THERE IS NO WAY this will look good.
But OMG, did he have a vision. And on the day we arrived for the walk through, I knew letting him make the call was the right one.
It was unexpected to have red and pink together, but oh my goodness, did it make the flowers pop in such a beautiful way.
I don't know about you, but I'm seeing examples of the Unexpected Red Theory all over my reels (I am a millennial, and as one, I see all the TikTok's about a month after on Instagram like a grown up…).
It has taken over Design-stagram and DIY-stagram through something as simple as a red frame or as big as a whole red room.
So in this new blog post? I'm sharing how to use the UNEXPECTED RED THEORY in your wedding (or in your life)!
That's all for today, friend.
I'm glad you're here.
Love you mean it!!!
xoxo
