We just spent the weekend in Washington, D.C.—four kids, museums, sight-seeing, stroller naps (for them, and I love that for them — must be nice!), and lots of walking.
But somewhere between the National Gallery and the cherry blossoms, I started thinking about timeless style—and how D.C. wears it like a silk glove.
Because here’s the thing: timeless doesn’t mean boring. And timeless doesn’t even necessarily mean “not trendy.”
It’s a huge buzzword right now, timeless, so I thought I’d dig into it.
In my opinion, it means thoughtful. Grounded. Elegant without effort. Loved now, and loved later.
It’s exactly what my favorite weddings have in common.
And it’s what I aim to capture in every single painting I create.
So here it is:
10 Things Washington D.C. Taught Me About Timeless Style
1. Cherry blossoms only last a week—but they make a lasting impression.
You don’t need a thousand details. You just need the right one at the right moment.
2. Monuments are dramatic and meaningful—just like a wedding ceremony.
Not everything needs to be understated. Your vows? Your walk down the aisle? Let them carry weight.
3. Art that lasts for centuries isn’t trendy. It’s intentional.
Style without substance fades. Make choices that matter to you—that’s how you look back and still love it years later. That doesn’t mean you can’t have trends — they can age gracefully too. The point is is to be intentional about what YOU want and love.
4. Every angle was designed on purpose.
From the Lincoln Memorial to a bridal bouquet, timeless beauty comes from thoughtful design, not coincidence.
5. Stillness has power.
In a city that moves fast, the quiet moments stand out. Just like the most powerful wedding moments—the hush before you say “I do,” or the stillness of the first dance.
6. Even the grandest buildings age gracefully.
We walked down Constitution marveling at the different architecture styles — and they all still look beautiful. A wedding doesn’t need to be shiny-new. It should feel lived in, loved in, and filled with memory.
7. Columns, not clutter.
D.C. is beautiful because of structure, not overdecoration. Same goes for weddings—build your day around meaning, not noise.
8. There’s beauty in contrast.
Soft blossoms against hard stone. Lace against tuxedos. Emotion against tradition. Let your day have texture.
9. Light tells the whole story.
Golden hour at the Lincoln Memorial is a mood—and so is the sun peeking through your veil. Build space for light.
10. You remember how it felt.
More than what you wore, what flowers you chose, or what signature drink you served—you’ll remember the way it felt. That’s the real goal.
Art Tip of the Week:
Timeless style isn’t loud. It’s layered. Thoughtful. Emotional. It invites people to feel something—and then never forget it.

Courtney
